Dr. Adelson is a licensed psychologist and school psychologist who specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents who struggle with life transitions, anger, anxiety, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression, identity issues, mood dysregulation, posttraumatic stress disorder, and self-esteem issues. She enjoys collaborating with parents and assisting in fostering supportive and loving relationships as well as supporting families in helping children reach their potential. Dr. Adelson joined Peachtree Psychiatric Professionals in the summer of 2020.

Dr. Adelson is from Birmingham, Alabama, and she graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She completed a Master of Science degree in School Psychology in 2014 and a Doctorate in School Psychology in 2018 from Tulane University. She completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in School Psychology at Virginia Beach City Public Schools. During training, Dr. Adelson provided evidence-based individual and group therapy and psychoeducational assessments to evaluate students with Autism, ADHD, Developmental Delays, Emotional Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Specific Learning Disabilities. She was a founding member of a Social-Emotional Learning Team that provided levels of support to elementary-aged children. In addition, she provided threat assessments, including evaluations of suicide risk and threat of violence towards others.

Dr. Adelson has worked in diverse settings including a supportive therapeutic educational program, a preschool assessment center, elementary and secondary schools, community mental health centers, and university clinics. In those settings, she provided therapy to children and adolescents with various presenting issues, conducted psychological and psychoeducational evaluations for children and young people ages 2-21, and consulted with parents and teachers regarding behavioral, emotional, and academic concerns. Dr. Adelson’s research interests and experiences include examining children’s rights within school settings and understanding differences and similarities in how children, teachers and parents define children’s psychological well-being.

Dr. Adelson is a member of the American Psychological Association. Her therapeutic approach is individualized and client-focused. She practices from an attachment theoretical perspective and draws from cognitive behavioral approaches and mindfulness-based strategies in order to assist in facilitating change. She strives to provide culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate treatment. Her approach is compassionate, collaborative, and supportive. She aims to create a safe, warm, and authentic relationship, which empowers individuals to find strength and experience personal growth.

In her spare time, Dr. Adelson enjoys reading, dancing, spending time outdoors, practicing yoga, cooking and eating delicious food, and playing with her dog.
