Kim is a licensed professional counselor and certified professional counselor supervisor, who has been working with children, adolescents, adults, and families for over a decade. Dr. Vay specializes in treatment of mood lability, anxiety, depression, non-suicidal self-injurious behaviors, and suicidal behaviors. As the first DBT Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician in the state of Georgia, she has extensive experience using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in her clinical work in residential treatment and outpatient settings. Dr. Vay provides DBT treatment for individuals and families, as well as facilitates DBT skills group for adolescents, adults and caregivers.

Kim grew up in Pennsylvania and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Edinboro University in 2001. She earned a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling in 2005 and a Doctorate Degree in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University in 2012. She has previously been employed for the Fulton County Schools and Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support (GNETS). She also has clinical experience working in residential treatment at Hillside Hospital and outpatient settings. Her goals in treatment are to help individuals learn healthy and adaptive coping skills to effectively manage intense emotions and to build a “life worth living.”

Dr. Vay is proficient in the adherent protocol of DBT and has received intensive training in Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT), Prolonged Exposure-DBT for trauma (DBT-PE), DBT protocol adapted for children (DBT-C), as well as Level One and Two of Theraplay and Group Theraplay. She supervises clinicians and provides DBT consultation to other DBT clinicians seeking certification or to enhance adherence to the treatment model. Dr. Vay also is an experienced speaker who has presented at multiple professional conferences and facilitates training for clinicians, residential treatment staff, educators, and parents. She is passionate about DBT education and the effective practice of DBT as a modality of treatment. She is active on the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification and is one of the official Site Reviewers for future programs seeking certification, as well as a Case Conceptualization Coder for clinicians seeking individual certification. Dr. Vay is a Member-At-Large on the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification.

Dr. Vay is actively involved in the Atlanta community and provides school support, community trainings, and workshops for parents and clinicians.  In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with friends and family. She enjoys exercise, including yoga and running, and taking in the evening city atmosphere in Atlanta.
