Dr. Julie Rand Dorney, TEAM Principal, graduated from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1989 and completed general psychiatric residency in 1993 and forensic psychiatry fellowship training in 1995 at Emory University School of Medicine. She is board certified in general and forensic psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She is a member of the American Medical Association, Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association, American Academy of Psychiatry and Law, and the Association for Threat Assessment Professionals. Dr. Dorney is Adjunct Associate Professor for Emory Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Assistant Training Director for Forensic Psychiatry. She worked as treating psychiatrist at Dekalb County Jail for eight years and as evaluating and treating psychiatrist on the inpatient forensic unit at Georgia Regional Hospital for twelve years. Her experience includes performing an extensive number of forensic competency and responsibility evaluations, testifying as an expert witness at the state and federal level, assessing acute and long-term risk in state and federal forensic environments, conditional release management, and assessing civil cases in outpatient or community settings. Certified in the Workplace Assessment of Violence Risk-21 (WAVR-21), Dr. Dorney consults with companies and gathers collateral workplace information to assess for potential violence and to provide management plans as needed.
