Avi Wofsy, PhD MSN, PMHNP-BC

As a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, and native Atlantan, Avi (as her patients call her) found her calling in psychiatry due to her love of listening to people’s stories. Avi treats adults struggling with mood and anxiety disorders. She is pragmatic in her approach, working to create a collaborative environment with patients which supports shared decision making leading to more effective treatment outcomes.

Prior to joining Peachtree Psychiatric Professionals in 2022, Avi worked at Yale New Haven Hospital conducting research aimed at changing the standard of care for substance use disorders. She earned her MSN from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) with a focus in psychiatry. UCSF is the University of California’s campus which centers entirely on graduate level health science education. She received her graduate training at San Francisco General Hospital and then worked at San Francisco’s Department of Public Health and in community-based psychiatry. Continuing her education and passion for mental health, Avi received her PhD from Emory University in November of 2023. Her dissertation focuses on the history of mental health public policy. Avi continues to maintain her relationship with Emory University as a guest lecturer.

Avi is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honors Society and a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Fellow. When she’s not supporting her patients, she enjoys taking her rescue dog for adventures throughout the city, gardening, and reading Irish thrillers and mysteries.

“My patients teach me something new every day and I feel very privileged to be let into their lives.”
