WHAT IT IS

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), is a widely talked about, but often misunderstood, condition that affects over three million people in the US each year. People typically think of someone with OCD as being overly organized, detail-oriented, and perfectionistic. While this may be the case for some diagnosed with OCD, it can look very different across the population of those who struggle with this disorder. Common symptoms of OCD include recurring intrusive thoughts, and images and urges that are unwanted and often disturbing. OCD patients exhibit repetitive, ritualistic behaviors that are compulsive in nature and spend excessive energy neutralizing or attempting to stop these thoughts, images and urges from entering their minds. In addition, OCD patients have difficulty with stopping the compulsive behaviors.
