DBT-Child Groups

DBT for Children (DBT-C) was developed to address treatment needs of children and adolescents struggling with high emotional sensitivity and impulsive behavior. These children experience emotions at a different level and much stronger than their peers. These children are easily irritated, and their emotions may be so overwhelming that verbal or physical aggression occurs. The main goals of DBT-C are to teach these children adaptive coping skills, effective problem-solving, and parental reinforcement of effective behaviors at home.

For those new to DBT-C, please complete the Interest Form and a member of our DBT-C team will connect with you to discuss options and answer any questions you may have.

Additional information about each group can be found under the subheadings below.

  • Parents/caregivers are given the opportunity to learn the DBT skills alongside their loved ones, creating opportunities for rehearsal, modeling, and more effective behavior change. Classes are offered in three, 8-week skills modules (Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness) with the first two weeks of each module focusing on Mindfulness skills.

    $1200 per 8week module

  • PCH offers a 12 week parenting program for parents of elementary aged children (ages 7-11). This program is based on the DBT model which is designed to help with emotional regulation. In the DBT-C model, the first step is to help parents understand how to support their child in regulating their emotions. Included in this process will be behavior management strategies and implementation of these strategies into the home environment.

Offered virtually on Mondays and Thursdays. See our class page to register and for more information.
