Lauren Melville Bishop, LMSW
Lauren is a social worker and trained DBT therapist, who provides therapeutic services to adolescents, young adults, and their families. She primarily works with adolescents and young adults struggling with depression, anxiety, passive suicidal ideation, self-harm, low self-esteem, and trauma. She is also trained in Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT), which addresses attachment ruptures to help families find greater connection and security, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), to help those patients presenting with a history of trauma find healing. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Georgia Society for Clinical Social Work.
Lauren grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated from a local private school before obtaining her bachelor’s degree from Kenyon College. She then went on to earn her master’s degree in social work from the University of Georgia. Her prior work experience includes supporting patients at various levels of care, residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient treatment and she has been an integral part of many behavioral health programs throughout the country. Due to Lauren’s personal experience in the private school scene, she can more effectively support patients struggling within the school setting and has been told by patients previously that her personal understanding increases their sense of comfort in navigating school-related concerns.
Lauren aims to deliver a balance of warmth, openness, and validation with her patients while also maintaining a directness to encourage accountability and growth. She partners with her adolescent patients to make the therapeutic experience more collaborative and provide them with autonomy in their treatment. Her primary goal as a clinician is to empower her patients to create a life that they are proud of and is worth living.
In her spare time, Lauren enjoys cooking, hanging out with her dog, traveling with her husband, and gardening. If you’re lucky, she’ll also share her love of classical singing and her time when she performed opera!
Lauren is currently under the supervision of Dr. Kimberly Vay, LPC, CPCS and Sarah Donnini, LCSW, CCS.
